You can also hang in your own backyard, and play one of these fun water games where kids can have a ton of fun by getting soaked! Paint yourself! Get the kids in their bathing suits. Use washable non-toxic finger paints and have them make colorful designs on their arms and legs. Make sure the kids keep the paint away from their face and eyes. When they are done painting their “masterpiece,” hose them off or have them run through the sprinkler. Make your own waterslide To make your own backyard water slide, use about 30 feet of thick plastic sheeting. Do not use plastic garbage bags as they are too thin. You’ll find thick plastic sheeting at hardware stores. Find a grassy hill to secure the plastic sheet with U-shaped plastic garden stakes. Get the hose on and start sliding away. Make sure there are no rocks or sharp objects on the hill and that friends always slide a safe distance apart. Squirt Football A wet variation of the traditional touch football game. Divide kids into 2 teams. Each player carries a squirt gun. Players tag each other by squirting. The longer you play, the wetter you get and the harder it becomes to hold on to the football. Musical Sprinkler Hook up a sprinkler. Have the kids move around the sprinkler designated area. They can dance, hop, or strike funny poses. When the sprinkler is turned on, the kids must freeze in position without moving until the sprinkler is turned off again. Bathing suits are “required” for this game! Water Limbo Set up a water hose in a grassy area. Line kids up like in traditional limbo. Have an adult in charge of the water hose shoot a powerful stream of water for kids to limbo under. Start with the hose placed high, then lower the steam of water after each round. Losers, of course, get drenched! Water Balloon Toss Form two lines of 2 players, facing each other. Have them toss a water balloon back and forth, taking a step backwards after every 2 tosses. The further back they step, the further the toss – and the more likely the water balloon will burst! The last players to have their water balloon intact win. Water War Arm the kids with an arsenal of water artillery, such as squirt guns, squirt bottles, turkey basters, sponges, water balloons – anything safe that can hold and or shoot water. Let them go wild and watch them get completely soaked! Make sure that all water activities are supervised by an adult!
