It’s the Most…Wonderful time…of the Year… Back to school is here and it brings with it so many new and familiar stresses in our lives… Indoor shoes, outdoor shoes, extra clothes, lunches, snacks, nutritional breaks, bullying, peeing, extra clothes, litter-less lunch, bus rides, walking alone, HOLY HELL MY HEAD MAY JUST EXPLODE!! Amidst all the check lists and supply shopping is another stress that we tend to overlook until we are face to face with it… MEET THE TEACHER!!! I HATE this part…not because I hate teachers, I love them, I think they are saints. I went to school to be a teacher , until I realized what they got paid NOT even close to being enough for what they do… and that I didn’t like kids… There is something about walking in to a teachers classroom, that familiar smell of clue and chalk dust…Sitting down in those TINY chairs, you can only be so cool with your knees around your ears…ya ya I know… that’s what she said… The feeling of doubt, judgement…”Is she going to think I am a bad parent?”…”Is she going to know I am a bad speller?”…”She is going to find out I cheated on my grade 5 math test”… It all just brings back crazy school memories…and makes me feel all funny inside…like when you climb the rope in gym class… Am I the only one??? Or do teachers make other grown adults feel…well …weird…self conscious…or out of sorts… I knew I wasn’t after I saw this Tweet from my friend @lovelaughshop
Oh thank goodness…Misery Loves Company! One thing I have learned 4 kids in…is that no matter how awkward I feel or even maybe a little inferior around my kids teacher… I KNOW MY KID BEST… So in some cases…the teacher does NOT always know best… You are the ONLY voice your child has and YOU know them best…never be afraid to show this… To ALL parents during this crazy time…MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU! Give me Strength Stinger…
