Top Tip for Removing Scratches from your Favorite Dishes

To know me is to know that I am the least domesticated person out there.  Yup, Sharon and domesticity do not go hand in hand.  But, I do love my home to look clean and pretty and when I have guests, of course I strive to make the best presentation possible.  This has become difficult as of late because my favourite dishes that we purchased when we got married many years ago have now become so scratched from use that quite frankly they are embarassing to me.

I have tried all types of products to lift the scratches from my plates to no avail. While shopping at Bed Bath and Beyond today I came across a product called Bar Keeper and it looked like it had so many different uses that although it did not list dishes, I decided to give it a try.

To my amazement, I lucked out!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Buy the powder version of the product as it comes in a liquid as well but I’m not convinced the liquid will do the trick.
  2. I applied the powder to a cloth and dropped a few drops of water on it to make a paste.
  3. I scrubbed the plate in a circular motion and although it took some time,  it was completely worth it!

My 12 year old dishes look practically new!  I wasn’t able to get out every single scratch but the vast majority are gone and the remaining scratches are so light now that they are hardly visible!

Just a note, I used this product on my Pfaltzgraff Stoneware dishes.  I can’t make any guarantees that this product will work on any other surface types but wanted to share the amazing results.

No one has paid me to try this product, nor write a review about it, just sharing because I am incredibly excited to have essentially a brand new set of dishes!

Good Luck!

  • Awesome post Sharon, who doesn’t have dishes that end up scratched? I’m wondering if this would work for a crockpot too? Definitely something worth picking up 🙂

  • What a great tip!!! Thanks for sharing, I’m interested to see what else this works on – wonder if it works on stainless steel sink scratches?!

  • Oh this is fantastic! Thanks for sharing.. I’ve never even seen this product, but now I’ll be picking it up!

  • Oh this is amazing. I have an entire box of dishes in a box that I have had for years and they are my favourite. I did get some new ones but they are not nearly as nice. I am going to go pick up this product on the weekend and set my dishes free.

  • I had seen something about it online but saw it was only available in the US. Then came across it randomly at the cash at Bed Bath and Beyond and was so excited to have found it in Canada.

  • WOW! Sharon, if you hadn’t posted before and after pics, I probably wouldn’t have believed it would work so well! I never know if a product’s a gimmick or not, so seeing is believing…especially when it comes from a friend, family member or someone you know! Thanks for sharing!
