As promised, I am keeping you all posted on our potty training adventures with the good, the bad, and the embarrassing…
So far potty training has been going pretty smoothly. Every time Mas has had to poop, he has let us know and we made it to the potty. Until recently…. our first potty experience away from home.
We went up to the family cottage over the last long weekend and on the way stopped and bought an additional potty. Mas was very excited as this one looks like a frog. We arrived at our cottage later in the evening, got unpacked and went to bed. No chance to try the potty the first night.
The next morning we got up well rested and ready to take on the day. Mas was happily playing when all of a sudden he points to his bum and says “poop poop”! My husband was closest. He ran over, scooped him up and carried him to the bathroom. I grabbed the wipes and headed in expecting everything to be going smoothly. Boy was I surprised when I walked in and Mas wasn’t even on the potty! Yet for some reason my hubby started taking all of his clothes off, instead of just pulling his pants and diaper down. When I walked in I asked “what was going on?” He replied “why?” Clearly he didn’t realize how much time this was taking. So I GENTLY (I didn’t want to discourage Dad) suggested he just pull his pants and diaper off and stick him on the potty. In the rush to do this he undid the diaper a great distance away from the potty and when our little guy went to sit down…you guessed it, pardon the pun “shit hit the floor” literally!
The situation was a pretty touchy subject for a little while after, but we can all laugh about it now. The good news is he continued the rest of his business on the potty.
I guess the moral of this mishap is that the timing is key, but not to the point of being sloppy, and remember dads need a little potty training too!
Until next time…
Potty training is definitely not for the squeamish! 🙂 You get to spend a whole lot of time with pee and poo!!!
Oh, this post is a great reminder of how potty training is a learning experience for both kids and parents 🙂 We’ve all been there! Thanks for sharing your potty training journey!
