My weight loss journey started like many others; a number on the scale that scared them. Just shy of reaching 200 lbs I knew a change had to made in my life, and sadly it would have to be a drastic one. I had so much more to live happily for, and I say happily for as I am sure I could live like I have been for quite some time more, but definitely not with a smile on my face.
The change began when I saw the number 194.5 on the scale. My stomach turned, my heart dropped, I walked over to the telephone, called my natropath and requested I see her as soon as she had available. We booked that Friday, April 25th, and life now as I know it has never been better. So here is my story from day 1, to as it stands today at day 62; 25.3 lbs lighter.
MY JOURNEY :: My natropath put me on a gradual lifestyle change called the Dukan Diet. It is a 4 phase program that teaches the body to do what is should, not store fats and to run at its highest potential. The basic idea is you remove carbs, high fats and sugars from your diet for a short time period and slowly reintroduce them until your body begins to work as it should. Make sense? For me I wouldn’t say this was difficult to do, the only part of it that I have found to be a struggle is planning. Planning your menu is key for this diet, having foods on hand that you can eat is what will help with the success. Sadly as woman we’ve tried far too many diets, including myself, and honestly this has by far been the easiest for me, most rewarding, and healthiest as life as I know it will go back to normal, eating all the foods I love in moderation; which is really how we all know we should be doing it.
As we stand, at day 62, I feel alive. I have the love and support from my family and friends, and I’m well on my way to enjoying my life exactly how I had seen it in my dreams from my childhood. Loosing weight for many begins with a desire to look a certain way, but is rooted really by a feeling and emotion you get from it looking at yourself in the mirror. This is okay, you’re allowed to be thinner, you’re allowed to look exactly how you want, and it doesn’t have to be what society sees as perfect. Let your scale be based on happiness and smiles, not numbers; as this is truly what life is all about. Being happy. Enjoying everyday.
