Back to School!!

School-supplies-4

Yes, it’s not as far away as you think! Here in New Brunswick the children return the first week of September. “That’s quite a bit away?” you say. I’ll remember that when I start seeing my Facebook feed blowing up with parents upset that they can’t find adequate supplies like stationary or sneakers. I know your children are in vacation mode but do you really want the stress of not having the right things needed for their return? Not only will you be better prepared by starting now, you have the opportunity to save big!

Check online and flyers to save coupons and most importantly save your receipts. I highly recommend you get yourself a small monthly folder to put them all in to keep them handy and organized. I know I don’t have a money tree in my backyard and every penny counts with the price of necessities drastically rising. I am by no means saying you need to be cheap, just be a smart shopper. Our seven year old gets a list at the end of each school year telling us what she must have, which is great for taking the guess work out of it like I had going to school. This still enables me to shop smart and buy when and where the sales are, keeping receipts to return if necessary.

One of the best things I’ve done when it comes to shopping for these things is following local coupon enthusiasts, our local lady has a blog and keeps her members informed on what’s on sale and when, match ups so that you can buy it right the first time for the least amount and sometimes she even knows when a sale is going to hit before it happens as local retailers contact her to “create the hype”. They do this as she is not a shelf emptier, she coupons for what her family will use and a little more and leaves lots for others. I’m sure if you browse around you will find your area will have someone like this for you to follow and get to know, as in the end it’s a great benefit for all purchases. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and Happy Shopping!!

  • Can I say that I feel “cheated” by not having to buy our supplies? That was always what got me excited to go back to school. My little guy starts in Sept but we pay a fee with enrollment and the school buys all supplies for the year. Most people love it but I’m not there yet

  • I always stock up on supplies through the year, clothes I like to buy online when there is free shipping and coupons or sales. I am lucky that my kids have a uniform, navy pants and navy or white shirt, so shopping is exponentially easier if I am buying 10 pairs of the same thing! Thanks for the advice, any reason to go out and shop!

  • Excellent web site. Lots of useful info here. I’m sending it to a few pals ans additionally sharing in delicious.

  • Ohhhhh I can give you our list lol….I so wish it was that way with us. On the flip side of things by doing it this way maybe we get it cheaper…not sure???

  • Love, Love, Love the uniform idea. Personally due to the fact of how commercialized things have become in ways I would love to just pay the school an amount each year to cover clothing, supplies and food and be done with it. It would stop the stealing between kids over jealousy and everyone would be on a level playing field. Just my 2 cents.
