I’m the proud mom of two boys…two very different boys. I mean their personalities could not be any more different. My oldest is relaxed, chilled and quiet. My youngest cannot sit still, runs wild and although he doesn’t speak yet, can be quite loud.
However when it comes to boys, there are a few things that tend to be the same in terms of things they do. And all you moms and dads out there who are raising boys, I’m sure can relate.
Here are the top 5 things you need to know about raising boys:
1 – There will always be pee left in the toilet
For some reason, flushing in my house doesn’t exist. I’m not sure why, but after my oldest goes to the washroom, he just ‘forgets’. I mean, how hard is it to do your job and flush? It’s just a logical next step in the process no? We’ve gone a whole 24 hours before noticing the smell coming from the boys bathroom. I guess we should also bear in mind that we should be happy when they go in the toilet, as boys will go just about anywhere. The other day before leaving the house I asked my oldest if he needed to go before we left…he said “no, I can just go in the grass”.
2 – Touching their ‘you-know-what’
Private part touching just comes with the territory. Now I didn’t realize just how much it would happen or how early it would start for that matter, but it is ALL OF THE TIME. It’s a fun thing to do apparently…hands are constantly down the pants, no matter the time of day. Consider yourself warned.
3 – Farting, Burping, Pee and Poo
Boys love to fart. And burp. And say poo and pee. Its funny to them. They have contests on who can be louder. My son makes up songs with the words. Who needs a good joke when you can just fart? Hysterical laughter. And the funny thing is, it’s okay…when you are a kid, it’s okay to do those things. Just wait until you are older my loves!
4 – No inside voice
I have 3 nephews, all of whom came before I had kids of my own. I always thought my sisters house was so loud. I now understand. Unless I have the house to myself or they are asleep, there is never a quiet moment. For some reason, there’s no such thing as an inside voice. Volume is not a consideration. Advil will become your best friend.
5 – Being naked
What is it about being naked that kids love so much? If my youngest had a choice, he would never get dressed. We battle it out almost daily to get clothes on. He’d run around buck naked or with just a diaper on any time he can. My oldest thinks its funny. Going commando is fun. Probably for the easy access to the privates! See point 2!
Don’t get me wrong…I love this about my boys. I also love how boys are so incredibly affectionate and cuddly. But for those who may have sons, you need to know!
Are you a parent of boys? What would you add to this list?
forgot about boys not closing the bathroom door when doing their business. We hear tinkling and we are constantly yelling that the bathroom door is not broken! – lol.
Having a woopie cushion in a boys loot bag is like a Barbie is to girls.
Hahaha so true!!!
From a mom of three boys….I agree they are different! but one common thing is they do not care how dirty they get! I have even filled my purse with baby wipes…and they are 9,5 and 3. It seems as if I just need to blink and they have been into something! 🙂 enjoying every moment! My house is a crazy one…but would not have it any other way!
My boys play hockey…and even at a young age…be prepared for the smell of hard work! LOL YUK! my laundry machine works overtime!
Hockey gear stink! Forgot about that!!! We have a few years before that but very familiar with it!!! LOL
I completely agree with everything that has been mentioned! I am a mom of 5….4 boys and 1 girl. Let me also mention that 3 of the 4 boys are 4 year old triplets! There seems to be just a general higher level of activity, to put it nicely, with boys! My boys seem to have selective hearing too! Every day brings something new…love it!
4 year old triplets! Wow!!! Selective hearing – absolutely!!!!
Haha… these are all so true! I thought it was just my boys who got naked the minute they walked in the door, it’s nice to know it’s not just because their weird. LOL!
LOL Boys are a different breed!!!
I am raising 3 boys ages 6, 4, and 2. I think that wresting and destroying stuff should be added to the list. My boys are constantly rolling around on the floor, and trying to take apart their toys. I love watching them figure out how to put them back together.
