Two of Your Kids Favorites In One Meal!
This was one of my favorites as a kid! I remember my Mom had this really great sandwich maker, and would make me the most gooey pizza sandwiches! The cheese would ooze out of the sides, and she would serve it with some warmed pizza sauce! Way to go Mom, this one is a winner.
I make mine almost the same as Mom, except I just make it like a regular grilled cheese sandwich since I don’t have a sandwich maker like she did. And instead of pizza sauce, I use some of my homemade spaghetti sauce, because there’s always some in the fridge.
These sandwiches make the perfect week night meal for busy nights when you have to eat and run, or make a great lunch! Add your favorite pizza toppings to the middle to make it even more special!
Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe
Ingredients:
per sandwich
2 slices of bread
butter
1/8 cup shredded mozzarella
2 slices white american cheese
4-5 slices pepperoni
1 tbsp homemade spaghetti sauce, or pizza sauce
Directions:
Butter one side of each slice of bread.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add one slice of buttered bread, butter side down. Layer:
– 1 slice american cheese and 1/2 of shredded mozzarella
– pepperoni and spaghetti sauce
– remaining shredded mozzarella and american cheese
– remaining slice of bread – butter side up
Cook for 2 minutes on first side, lower heat to medium-low (around 4), flip, and cover with a pot lid.
Cook for another 2 minutes, allowing the cheese to get really melted and gooey. Remove from heat, slice and serve with warmed spaghetti sauce on the side to dip.
