A quick and easy homemade buttermilk ranch dressing recipe with homemade buttermilk (it’s easier than you think) and NO mayo!
I feel like ranch dressing is something that either you love or you hate! D.J. and I hate it. I can’t even stand the smell of it, let alone the taste. But my friend, Melissa puts the stuff on almost everything, and the kids at school go absolutely CRAZY for ranch dressing. Whether it’s on salad, or with some fresh veggies, or some even like it with chicken nuggets – the kids love ranch dressing and I feel with serving it to the kiddos because it just means that they are eating more veggies, and because the ranch dressing is homemade, it doesn’t have all of the nasties that the bottled stuff has (like MSG), and because it’s made with yogurt, the kiddos are even getting some probiotics when they are eating. Homemade Ranch Dressing is a winning recipe, all around!
My homemade version of ranch dressing is simple. It’s something you can whip up in only a few minutes, and you probably have all of the ingredients you need in your fridge and pantry. This ranch dressing recipe uses buttermilk. Buttermilk is a wonderful ingredient, and can be used for so, so many things, but buttermilk isn’t something that everyone has laying around their kitchen, and that’s ok, because butter milk is probably one of the easiest things you’ll ever make!
How To Make Buttermilk with Whole Milk and Lemon Juice
Ingredients:
1 tbsp lemon juice (or vinegar)
whole milk
Directions:
Add lemon juice to the bottom of a liquid measuring cup. Add enough milk to fill to the 1 cup line.
Stir and let sit 5 to 10 minutes.
Voila. You made buttermilk!
After you’ve made your buttermilk, it’s time to start making the ranch dressing. Make the dressing at least 30 minutes before you want to serve it to allow all of the flavors to marry, and get all happy and delicious!
