I’m sure you can tell by now that I like making everything homemade – including my spice mixes. This Homemade Taco Seasoning is so easy, and there is no crap like MSG in it like pre-mixed varieties you buy at the grocery store.
Have you ever looked at the ingredients on your taco seasoning? Accord ing to Old El Paso’s website, their taco seasoning has “Chili pepper, salt, maltodextrin, spice, onion powder, corn starch, yellow corn flour. Contains less than 2% of: partially hydrogenated soybean oil, silicon dioxide (anticaking agent), sunflower and/or cottonseed oil, natural flavor, ethoxyquin (preservative).”
There are more thickening agents in this than any other ingredients, and we’re putting this crap into our bodies daily! Gross.
Making your own seasoning is so easy. I purchase all of my spices in bulk from my local Sprouts, but if you’re in Canada, hit up the Bulk Barn! Ohhh, how I miss that store! By doing this, I only buy a little at a time, so the spices stay as fresh as possible, and it costs a hell of a lot less than anything you’ll buy in the store. By only buying what you need, you can save money on your staple ingredients.
I’m really not sure why I haven’t shared this in the past I’ve probably made 10 different spice blends, and the recipes are sitting right here, at my computer desk waiting to be shared!
Since Taco Seasoning is one my most used spices, I wanted to share it first. You can use this seasoning on anything that calls for taco seasoning, or really for any Mexican inspired dish you choose!
