Finding The Right Highlight

Summer is here and dewy skin is in! If you want to add a little extra glow to your skin all you need is a great highlighter. Being up all night with a newborn definitely takes its toll on your skin and along with dark circles my overall skin tone is looking a little dull these days. If you are anything like me and your skin isn’t naturally radiant this is a great tip to fake a healthy glow!

A good highlight can completely transform a makeup look and actually contour your face just like a bronzer. Here are a few shimmery powders that I am currently loving to achieve a healthy summer glow.

Smashbox Soft Lights Shimmer

This is my all time favourite highlighter! It has a pretty pink undertone with a beautiful silvery shimmer. It gives your skin that “lit from within” glow. It’s quite pigmented so this will give you a fairly dramatic highlight. Don’t worry, it’s not going to make you look like a disco ball but it will definitely be a noticeable highlight that’s sure to compliment any look. As far as I can tell it’s been discontinued at Sephora (boo!) but I think you can still get it at Shoppers Drugmart if you live in Canada! Also, Smashbox has another highlighter called Smashbox Fusion Soft Lights that’s similar!

This lovely illuminizer is very subtle and perfect for someone just starting to experiment with highlighters. In fact it’s so sheer it can actually be used all over the face as a setting powder! Compared to the Smashbox Soft Lights this powder is much more gold. This powder will give your skin a barely-there glow that looks super natural!

This is a peachy pink highlighter that can also be used as an eyeshadow or blush. This is another very pigmented powder so a little goes a very long way. It does appear quite pink when applied so if you are using this as a highlighter be sure to match your blush shade accordingly. For example a coral blush wouldn’t be a good pairing for this highlighter, reach for a pink blush instead. Or you can skip blush altogether and use this as a blush/highlighter combo!
