Parents who use video baby monitors, pay attention!

FOX19 has recently investigated a situation where someone hacked into a family’s internet and was able to hijack their baby monitors video stream.

A couple from Ohio were woken up by a stranger’s voice in their home yelling at their baby to wake up. To their horror, it came from their baby monitor.

Obviously shaken, they unplugged the device. Smart move!

How did they know their baby’s video monitor had been hacked?

• The camera was moving when it shouldn’t have been
• Someone was talking to their child through the monitor

They offer two important tips on how to prevent this from happening:

1. Prevention is key! Change the password on your Wi-Fi as well as the camera itself, and make them different.

2. Check the manufacturer’s website regularly for updates you can download since the available updates may not show up directly on the device, as they do on your computer or cell phone.
